First Caps Action Since The Spring / Premier match depuis le printemps

Thanks to the Internet, just saw the Caps Flyers exhibition game won 2-1 by Philly.

A few thoughts:
-Alzner is more steady than Lepisto, but both should become Hershey's no 1 pair and gain more experience
-Chris 'buzzsaw' Bourque was a factor yet needs more seasoning
-Fedorov is an old smoothie

Quelques réactions:
-Alzner est plus solide que Lepisto, mais les deux devraient devenir le premier duo défensif à Hershey et prendre plus d'expérience
-Chris Bourque a été un facteur mais il a besoin d'une autre année à Hershey
-Fedorov est très en forme pour un joueur plus âgé

As a follow-up to yesterday's offensive lines, here's my take on D:

1st pair: Schultz - Green

Schultz? Yes, he's dependable, but also:

2nd pair: Morrisson-Poti

Having Morrisson here will free up Poti to play more offensively

3rd pair: Lepisto-Jurcina

Sami can make it full-time this year

Spare: Erskine. 'Nuff said.

Alzner, no matter what camp he has, should play a full year in Hershey. Look at what it did to Green.

Schultz? Oui, il est fiable, et en plus :

My Lines / Mes Trios

After watching the Russia-Canada World Championship final game again, I'm convinced that the Caps should keep Ovechkin-Fedorov-Semin together.

If I was Bruce Boudreau my lines would be:

Ovechkin-Fedorov-Semin

Awesome power with a great defensive center.

Laich-Backstrom-Clark

Sweetness with grindability and leadership.

Gordon-Nylander-Kozlov

A stronger than usual offensive third line, thanks to Nyls.

Brashear-Steckel-Bradley

An energy fourth line with penalty killing and faceoff strength.

Spares:

Fleischman, Fehr for the inevitable injuries. This year is Flash's last chance.

///Après avoir regardé à nouveau le match final Russie-Canada des championnats mondiaux, je suis convaincu que les Capitals devraient garder le trio Ovechkin-Fedorov-Semin intact.

August is the worst time of year for hockey fans: no free agents, no trades, no hockey games! Bring on September, when I can start my garage-league again and training camp will begin.

Open Letter to Ted Leonsis //Lettre ouverte à Ted Leonsis

Hi Ted,

FYI, after cheering for the caps from Ontario Canada since 1982 I finally got to see my first game live at the Verizon Centre (a 2-1 New Jersey win in OT).

I wanted to tell you that Verizon rocks (this was before the Red!) and that Sean Goodman of your team went out of his way to make my day special, by advising my wife on ticket selection, obtaining an autographed Ovie puck for me, and even dropping by during the intermission.

I strongly believe that you will continue to grow your fan base one customer at a time, and that you are doing it right.

À titre d'info, après plus de 25 ans comme amateur des Capitals ici en Ontario (Canada), j'ai finalement vu mon premier match au centre Verizon (une victoire de 2-1 des Devils en surtemps).

Je voulais te dire que l'atmosphère de l'arène est incroyable (ceci était même avant Rock The Red!). Sean Goodman de ton équipe s'est vraiment dépassé au niveau du service à la clientèle pour rendre ma journée mémorables, en conseillant mon épouse dans le choix de billets, en obtenant une rondelle autographiée par Ovechkin et en nous visitant à l'entracte.

Je crois dur comme fer que tu bâtiras une excellente fidélité des amateurs avec une telle approche, et que vous faites bien les choses.

Doubleheader Friday ///Programme double du vendredi

Great to see that Russian first line including wunderkind Ovechkin excelling today. I'm currently watching Canada Sweden and enjoying Mike Green and Nicklas Backstrom's play.

The Caps future is indeed bright. They should sign Fedorov and have the following two lines:

Ovechkin-Fedorov-Semin
Laich-Nylander-Backstrom.

///C'est beau de voir la première ligne russe incluant le merveilleux Ovechkin qui excellent aujourd'hui. Je regarde en ce moment le Canada contre la Suède, et Mike Green et Nicklas Backstrom jouent bien aussi.

Back On Ice //De retour

Summer league has started and I'm back on ths ice for the first time in three weeks: a bit rusty but oh so glad to be playing again.

We won 3-2.

White Wins Cup ///Les Blancs champions

Last night my White team completed a beautiful 07-08 Friday Knights season with a convincing win over Black to WIN THE CUP.

Here we are, all smiles.

Steph the Goalie, to me, was our MVP of the playoffs. More on the game later.

A Season to Remember ///Une bonne saison

No one would have predicted, in early November, that the Caps would lose in overtime in the seventh game of the first round. They were in 15th place in the East.

These young guns are learning to win by swallowing the bitter pill of defeat. They need to learn. They need to grow together, and play even more as a team.

These young guns are gonna be something to reckon with next year.

After their first three losses in a row under Bruce Boudreau, these kids have shown a lot of heart & soul in winning the past two games.

I was wrong in my previous post.

These kids want to win.

///Après avoir perdu trois match d'affilé pour le première fois depuis le début du règne Bruce Boudreau, les jeunes des Capitals ont démontré beaucoup de coeur au ventre au courant des deux dernières victoires.

Je n'avais pas raison dans mon billet précédent.

Was Their Cup Making the Playoffs? ///Leur Coupe était-elle d'accéder aux séries?

When Semin put the third goal in against Florida to practically confirm their playoff spot, Ovechkin jumped on him and the five players on the ice seemed to be celebrating the Stanley Cup, after such an amazing run just to make it.

What I've seen in the first four games of the playoffs makes me wonder if they didn't have a letdown after that.

We'll know tomorrow at dinner time if they can snap out of this funk and get their drive back.

They were outcoached, and they were outplayed.

Ovechkin is trying, but his big-game inexperience is showing. He's hesitating rather than going full pin.

But they are only trailing by one game. If they win Tuesday, it's a long series and their skill can win out.

A three goal comeback in the third in their first playoff game in five years is pretty remarkable to me.

This team has momentum.

No thanks to the refs, who gave Carolina 9 powerplays and Florida none, the Caps still lucked out as the Panthers held on to beat the Canes 4 to 3.

Tomorrow night, the Caps only need one point to earn not only their first playoff appearance since 2002-03, but also home ice advantage! Bring on those same Panthers like lambs to the slaughter.
