René Lecavalier

René Lecavalier was for years the play-by-play man on La Soirée du hockey (the French version of Hockey Night In Canada). He amazed me with his coloured expressions, such as ‘he’s fighting like the devil in a bowl of holy water’. His spoken French was impeccable, and this drove my father nuts. We eventually switched to Hockey Night in Canada.
